What Attracted Me To Network Marketing
59
I recently quit my job as a retail buyer because it was not making me happy. In actual fact it was making me quite miserable and that was starting to affect other areas of my life, including my health and my relationships. This was something I had to put an end to.
I have always had a lot of goals in life. So far, I am proud to say I have
achieved whatever I have set out to do. I got my business degree and my masters
in marketing despite the fact that there were many obstacles that could have
stood in my way. After college there was one job I dreamed of doing – retail
buying. I mean what girl does not want to shop for a living right? Well I am
glad I did accomplish this or else I would have always wondered – what if?
Unfortunately I realized pretty quickly that this was not for me! It was not
how I pictured it in any way shape or form.
Luckily for me there were other dreams I had to fall back on. These would
include: setting up my own business, teaching and writing. People have always
described me as a very ambitious person. The problem was I never believed in
myself enough to follow these dreams until recently.
So what does all of this have to do with network marketing? Well an opportunity
arose that allowed me to set up a business without putting much money into it.
I mean you have to remember I had just quit my job and I did not have enough
money to buy into a franchise or set up a traditional business. Not only did
this allow me to become my own boss it also provided a way to combine my other
passions, teaching and writing.
The only way I can describe how I found out about network marketing is to say I
stumbled across it. Never in five years of studying marketing did we learn
about this business model. I answered an advertisement for a job on a reputable
website. The ad was for a work from home opportunity. I had my doubts even
making the call because lets face it there is a stigma surrounding these ads.
When I look back on what made me take the huge leap of faith two things come to
mind.
1. First, and most importantly, I liked the person on the other end of the
phone. I know that will sound crazy to most of you – who makes an important
decision based on something like that. That is what you are thinking right?
Well I will admit it, I did! I listened to my heart for the first time in years
and told my head to be quiet! I was sick of conforming to the pressures that
society places on us. Go to college and then get a steady job was what I was
expected to do. The rat race is something I am now finished with. From now on
happiness and fulfillment are my motivating factors.
2. Second reason I was attracted to network marketing was that I was lucky
enough to come across a product I really believed in.
Like I said I have been having some health concerns lately. I researched ways
that I could heal myself naturally. I came up with a 10 step regime to fight my
way back to good health. This included a great deal of money being spent on
nutritionists, antioxidant supplements, a new diet and acupuncture. I had
become very passionate about this because it made me feel in control of the
situation. As somebody who never cared about my health in the past I had
suddenly turned a major corner. What I am happy to say now is that my health
problems led me to this opportunity. If I did not know so much about
antioxidants I would have never appreciated the product that I was being shown.
So now I am a firm believer in how negative things can lead to positive
opportunities.
I have since learned that my first reason for deciding to do network marketing
based on liking the women who introduced me to the idea was not actually that
silly after all. People buy people, more often than not the product is a
secondary consideration. So lesson number one in selecting a network marketing
company is to make sure you look forward to working with the people in your
upline. More importantly make sure that they can offer you something of value.
This could be good training or motivation. A combination of the two is really
the best outcome.
Lesson number two from my story is to join a network marketing company that sells a product you believe in. At the end of the day you would not tell people to go to a restaurant or watch a movie if you didn't think they were good. The same rule should apply to network marketing. Just because you are getting paid to refer a product does not mean you should if you don't like it.
My intention is not to sit here and plug my product or my network marketing company to you. That is why I am not giving you any details! Instead I just hope to give some advice to anyone else considering a career as a network marketer - choose your sponsor and the products you will be selling very carefully. Treat it like a business and put the work in and you will make it a success.
The most important thing I am trying to get accross here is follow your dreams and enjoy what you do for a living - I know I do!
Good Luck!
